A recent survey by the Public Religion Research Institute shows there is a broad support for same-sex marriage in the United States. There is also a strong belief the U.S. Supreme Court will rule to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide.
Overall, 55 percent of Americans favor allowing same-sex couples to marry legally, while 37 percent oppose it. In addition, 65 percent believe the Supreme Court will rule to legalize same-sex marriage, while only one-quarter (25 percent) think it will leave existing state bans intact.
